Architecture Specialist

Reports to: Director of Architecture

Preferred Locations: Boston, San Francisco, Seattle, Washington D.C.

Summary:
For over 100 years, the American Institute of Steel Construction has been the leading advocate and trusted resource for American structural steel. The mission of AISC’s Architecture Center team is to connect the architectural community and steel industry to create a collaborative environment for domestically fabricated structural steel. 

As an integral part of AISC’s Building Projects team, AISC has created the Architecture Center for Steel and is seeking qualified candidates who can leverage architectural knowledge and experience to advance the use of structural steel and cultivate dynamic partnerships with architects. 

In this creative group, team members will become recognized experts in steel design and construction. Integral to your success will be the ability to develop and implement creative strategies to inform architectural practitioners about how steel can enhance their designs and address today’s challenges in architecture and the built environment. 

AISC’s architecture team will focus on adding value, creating positive experiences, and expanding the professional capabilities of AISC through collaboration that introduces architecture strategy and addresses challenges faced by architecture practitioners/project stakeholders.

Responsibilities include the following but are not limited to:

  • Enhance Building Projects Team: Utilize architecture industry knowledge and assist in refining key messaging points for structural steel.
  • Content Development and Knowledge Sharing: Actively contribute content to professional social media platforms, write articles for industry publications, and speak at industry events to share industry knowledge and promote AISC resources.
  • Industry Engagement: Facilitate industry design competitions and events.
  • Marketing Campaigns: Develop frequent marketing campaigns highlighting the significance of steel in addressing AISC’s messaging.

Goals:

  • Establish Strategic Partnerships: Engage collaboratively with regional and national design organizations and partner with architects to utilize AISC’s network of resources and advocate for steel in the marketplace.
  • Promote AISC Architecture Center Resources: Raise awareness within the architectural community about the resources offered by AISC through interactive and experiential engagement.
  • Support Architectural Innovation: Collaborate with AISC’s Building Projects and E&R teams to identify and develop new technologies and systems that advance the use of structural steel.
  • Facilitate Industry Connections: Facilitate connections and foster relationships between architects and steel industry professionals to provide general steel information and input for projects.

Qualification requirements:

  • A degree in architecture and a drive to advocate for collaboration and finding intersections between the steel industry and the interests of architects in order to better inform the design process.
  • A minimum of three years of experience in design/architecture is preferred. Licensure, or working towards licensure, is encouraged and supported but not required.
  • Experience in producing content for various platforms including blogs, social media, and marketing materials.
  • Unafraid to imagine, communicate, create, and execute strategies that borrow on the architecture skill set in order to deploy strong narratives, gained expertise, or technical marketing content that appeal to an audience of architects and aligned AEC professionals.
  • Perpetually curious, passionate about people and design, obsessed with creativity, and an edge in exercising thought leadership.
  • A belief that architecture transcends traditional practice and that designers can lead within the adjacent steel industry as contributors to improving design in the built environment.
  • An interest in developing authority and subject matter expertise in steel design and construction.
  • A willingness to challenge the status quo both inside (the steel industry) and outside (architects) to foster innovation, raise the visibility of steel industry breakthroughs, and augment the contributions of steel in the built environment.
  • Enthusiastic about networking, developing and maintaining relationships, and public speaking.
  • Ability to communicate effectively through conversation, writing, and presentations.
  • Possess a self-starting, entrepreneurial spirit and be able to work both independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Travel 30% typically and as needed.
