Job Description: NSBA Bridge Education Specialist
Reports to: Senior Director of Education
Location: Anywhere in the domestic US, in close proximity to major airport (Chicago area preferred)

Summary

The National Steel Bridge Alliance is looking for an enthusiastic bridge expert to share the latest innovations in steel bridge design and construction with the decision-makers who shape American infrastructure.

For over 100 years, the American Institute of Steel Construction and National Steel Bridge Alliance have been the leading advocates and trusted resources for the American steel bridge industry. NSBA Bridge Steel Specialists build and strengthen relationships with decision-makers from a primary target audience (bridge owners and bridge designers) as a means to increase the use of structural steel.

An NSBA Bridge Education Specialist will ensure that decision-makers have the information about every aspect of steel bridge design and construction that they need to make informed choices.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

  • Develop processes, manage, and execute all Steel Bridge Forums (SBF), which are in-person seminars that bring together decision-makers and experts from the structural steel design and construction industry.
  • Coordinate/manage technical programming for NASCC: The Steel Conference's World Steel Bridge Symposium (WSBS) including acting as secretary of the WSBS planning committee.
  • Curate and implement national steel bridge webinars (approximately four per year). 
  • Work with AISC full members to develop processes that enable them to execute their own local/regional workshops, in partnership with the NSBA Marketing & Industry Engagement Senior Specialist.
  • Manage university outreach for steel bridge engineering programs in collaboration with AISC University Relations.
  • Manage the creation of case studies that will demonstrate why structural steel is a competitive option for bridges.
  • Train NSBA staff to effectively demonstrate existing tools during visits with decision-makers.
  • Coordinate with NSBA Marketing and Industry Engagement Senior Specialist to educate AISC full members about NSBA tools, including hosting quarterly national webinars for members.
  • Speak at local and national trade shows as needed on the market advantage of using structural steel for bridges.

Additional Duties & Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with AISC staff in all departments to ensure transparency and efficiency.
  • Engage and support the AASHTO/NSBA Steel Bridge Collaboration.
  • Work with NSBA Director of Market Development and NSBA Engineering & Research Department as needed to develop and implement new tools and resources for decision-makers.
  • Manage educational content on relevant internal and external communication channels, including the AISC and Modern Steel Construction websites.
  • Represent and promote the steel bridge industry.
  • Work cohesively with the NSBA Steel Solutions Center and NSBA colleagues to help bridge owners/designers select steel in the TS&L phase of projects.
  • Attend AISC and NSBA meetings and events.
  • Build and strengthen relationships with Departments of Transportation, bridge design consultants, and others in a position to select the structural material for bridge construction.
  • Attend national AASHTO meetings/conferences/events and regional bridge-related meetings/conferences as needed.
  • Quantify activities in Salesforce, meeting metrics benchmarks, and goals as required.
  • Carry out special projects and duties as assigned.

Qualifications

  • Four-year technical degree or equivalent experience.
  • Minimum of five years experience in the design and/or construction of bridges using AASHTO and state DOT bridge design standards, procedures, and requirements.
  • Ability to relate to and communicate effectively with engineers, fabricators, and Department of Transportation personnel.
  • Proficiency with standard productivity software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Google Workspace, and similar applications).
  • Exposure to CRM systems is highly preferred.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including the ability to present in front of a group and demonstrate a positive attitude and self-motivation, with a marketing- and sales-oriented demeanor.
  • Ability to work independently in a highly organized manner.
  • A high level of general business acumen and demonstrated ability to cultivate and maintain professional relationships.
  • Willingness to travel approximately one-third of the time.
