Iron Worker Facility Tours

To celebrate SteelDay, William Collins, PE, PhD, associate professor at the University of Kansas, took nearly 50 of his students to the Iron Worker training center in Kansas City. “This was the best SteelDay event I’ve been to yet, and that’s saying something because we’ve been taking students to some great events for the past eight years!”

Join AISC to find out what an ironworker does every day!

AISC’s Membership Services and University Programs departments are partnering with Iron Worker apprenticeship training centers across the country to educate architects, engineers, and students about what it’s like to be an ironworker.

Through participating in hands-on demos and tours of Iron Worker facilities, you will have an opportunity to try welding, bolting, flame-cutting, rigging and connecting beams, climbing steel columns, and more.

Here's a sneak peek into what you might do on a tour:

10:00 a.m. Arrive
10:05 a.m. AISC intro and welcome
10:10 a.m. Training Center intro and welcome, overview, Q&A, safety brief
10:30 a.m. Tour of facility and hands-on station(s): welding, rigging, burning, column climbing, bolting, and other mock-ups
11:30 to noon: Tour wrap-up

Looks fun, right? AISC would be happy to connect you to a local Iron Worker training center to plan the details. These tours are one-of-a-kind, so don't miss out on the opportunity!
