A webinar featuring a new documentary on one of America’s greatest bridge designers will be shown online from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on SteelDay and is available for continuing education credit. The film, Bridging Urban America, produced by sOlar eye communications, tells the intriguing story of Ralph Modjeski, acclaimed designer of many of America’s greatest bridges, and offers not just awe-inspiring views of these magnificent structures but also illustrates Modjeski’s life as an engineer, entrepreneur, artist and innovator. And during the week of SteelDay (September 26-30), the public has the power to vote in two separate competitions. You can choose which projects entered in the 2017 IDEAS2 Awards competition deserve recognition for excellence in steel-framed building design via a People’s Choice competition at www.steelday.org/vote. And, in celebration of 30 years of the AISC Steel Sculpture, a teaching sculpture made up of various steel members and connections that can be found on more than 170 college and university campuses across the U.S., you can view creative photos of these sculptures entered by students on AISC’s Facebook page and vote for your favorites.
