Steel Shots: Man of Steel

The winning sculpture in AISC’s sixth annual Steel Sculpture Competition is “Man of Steel,” designed and fabricated by Victor Velazquez, an employee with Universal Steel of North Carolina (an AISC member and certified fabricator).

The five finalists in AISC’s sixth annual Steel Sculpture Competition were on display at the 2017 NASCC: The Steel Conference in San Antonio last month, where attendees voted for their favorite, and the winner is “Man of Steel,” designed and fabricated by Victor Velazquez, an employee with Universal Steel of North Carolina (an AISC member and certified fabricator).

Nine sculptures were entered in the competition this year. The only rules for the competition are that entrants must be AISC Full or Associate Members and entries have to fit into a 2-ft by 2-ft by 2-ft box and be made entirely of steel.

The sculpture will be featured on the “Structurally Sound” page of our May issue. You can view all nine sculptures entered in the competition on AISC’s Facebook page (www.facebook.com/aiscDOTorg) in the “2016 Steel Sculpture Competition” photo album.
