CTA Red-Purple Bypass

CTA Red-Purple Bypass

On Chicago’s north side, a new flyover bridge is the solution to years of bottlenecks and delays at a critical elevated rail interchange--and steel was the perfect material to make it happen!

In completing the Red-Purple Bypass (RPB), the project team behind the Chicago Transit Authority’s Red and Purple Modernization Project overcame tight urban spaces and strict displacement tolerances. The result? A new single flyover track that carries the northbound Brown Line over the four mainline tracks, increasing the speed and efficiency of the other trains using the interchange.
